LEGO Wholesale for Online Sellers at BuyMyBricks

LEGO Wholesale for Online Sellers

Short answer

Buy depth on lines you have already sold rather than a wide spread of singles. Depth gives you a repeatable listing, easier storage and real information about whether a line works for you. A spread of ones gives you a lot of admin and nothing you can reorder.

Key takeaways
  • Depth on proven lines beats breadth on unproven ones.
  • A line you can reorder is worth more than a line you cannot.
  • Ask what the worst box in each line looks like, not just the average.
  • Work out your landed cost per unit before committing, including freight.
  • Retired stock cannot be reordered from a manufacturer. When a line is gone it is gone.

This is written for people who already sell online and want to buy better rather than more. If you are starting from nothing, the advice is the same but the stakes are lower.

What changes when you buy at trade

The obvious change is the price. The one that matters more is that you are committing capital before you have a buyer, which is the opposite of how most online sellers start. That makes what you buy far more important than what you pay for it.

Depth, and why it wins

  • One listing serves five units. The listing work happens once.
  • When a unit sells you learn something. When one unit sells you learn nothing.
  • Five of one set is easier to store and pack than five different boxes.
  • You can reorder depth. You cannot reorder a one-off.

The honest counterweight: depth on a line that does not move ties up cash for months. Depth should follow evidence, not enthusiasm.

What to ask before you commit

That last question is different in retired stock than anywhere else, and the honest answer is often no. Nothing is being manufactured, so a line is finite by definition.

  1. What is the worst box in this line? An average tells you nothing useful.
  2. Are these quantities real and current, or indicative?
  3. Is this standard rate or margin scheme, and what will the invoice show?
  4. What does delivery cost on this order size?
  5. If it sells well, can I get more, or is this everything?

Working out what a unit really costs you

The sheet price is not the cost. Add the freight share, the packaging a sealed box actually needs, and your selling costs wherever you list. On a low-value line those three can be most of the margin, which is why small boxes bought at trade often disappoint.

How our sheets work

  • Roughly twice a month, by email. No portal, no login.
  • Set numbers, real quantities and a price against each line.
  • Condition described per line, and where a line is mixed we say so and price it accordingly.
  • No obligation. Reply with the lines you want, or skip it entirely.
  • Sealed and unopened only. No opened sets, built models or loose bricks.

Payment and delivery, plainly

How it works
Payment In full before anything ships or is collected. No credit on a new account
Method Card on smaller orders, bank transfer on larger ones and on a new account first order
Collection Free. Come and load it yourself if you prefer
Delivery At your cost, courier for most orders, pallet for larger ones
Invoice Any order over 250 pounds gets a full VAT invoice

Who this suits and who it does not

It suits somebody who already moves retired sets and wants to go deeper on what works. It does not suit somebody looking for current-range stock at a discount, because that is not what we have, and it does not suit anybody wanting sale or return, because bulk orders are not returnable for a change of mind.

Storage and cash flow, the two that catch people out

None of these are reasons not to buy at trade. They are reasons to start with a size you can carry comfortably and grow into it.

What changes
Cash You pay before you sell, so working capital is tied up for as long as the stock takes to move
Space Sealed boxes are bulky. Depth on five lines takes real room, and it has to be dry and stable
Insurance Worth checking your cover actually extends to stock held at home, because many policies do not
Pace A line that takes four months to clear is four months of cash you cannot put on the next sheet

Common questions

From sellers opening a trade account for the first time.

Is there a minimum order?

No minimum at the moment. Order size does affect how much of a sheet you see, because a larger order clears more stock in one transaction.

Do I need to be VAT registered?

No. We ask about your VAT position so we can invoice you correctly, not to qualify you. Accounts are opened for buyers who are not registered.

Can I see the stock before I buy it?

Yes. Collection is free and you are welcome to come and look at what you are taking rather than working from a description.

What happens if a line sells well for me?

Ask for more on the next sheet, and tell us it worked. Retired stock is finite though, so the honest answer is sometimes that the line is gone.

Tell us what you sell

Apply once with a few details about your business and what you tend to look for. A person reads every application, usually the same working day.
