The redesigned Las Vegas Skyline that LEGO actually shipped, after the 2017 cancellation of the original 21038 Las Vegas. The 21047 includes the Bellagio, the Luxor, Encore, the Stratosphere, and the Fremont Street Experience. Skyline Series. Worth being explicit on this set: this is the released 21047, not the cancelled 21038. The 21038 was pulled by LEGO after the October 2017 Mandalay Bay shooting and only around 24 known copies escaped to retail in South Africa, where they now trade for several thousand pounds. Listings claiming “rare pearl gold” on the 21047 are mistaken; that detail belonged to the cancelled set.

Shanghai Skyline 21039. 597 pieces, released 2018, retired end-2020. Includes the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Shanghai Tower, the Shanghai World Financial Center, and the river baseplate. Harder to find than the Paris or NYC Skylines and one of the better international Skyline picks for collectors building out the line.

Common buying mistakes for LEGO Architecture buyers
Architecture is one of the cleanest LEGO themes to buy, but it has its own specific traps that catch new and returning buyers.
Buying used and missing the printed nameplate. Every Architecture set ships with a printed nameplate (the “Eiffel Tower” or “Louvre” or “Paris” tile). It is the centrepiece of the display. Used Architecture listings routinely arrive without the nameplate, and replacements on BrickLink can be hard to find for older sets. A used Architecture set without its nameplate is a generic micro-build that loses the identification cue at the front.
Assuming there are interiors. Architecture sets are solid micro-scale models. No doors that open. No interiors. No play features. Buyers expecting Modular Buildings-style detail often get disappointed at first. The point of Architecture is the silhouette, the iconography, and the recognisability, not the play value. If you want interior detail, the Creator Expert Modular line is the right place to look.
Confusing Skyline with Landmark. A “Paris” Architecture set could be the Skyline Paris 21044 (multiple buildings on a base) or a single-building Landmark set like the Eiffel Tower 21019. The two are different scales, different prices, and different shelf footprints. Always check the set number before buying.
Confusing 21038 with 21047. Already covered above. Both are called “Las Vegas”. The 21038 was cancelled; the 21047 is the redesigned and shipped Skyline. The 24 surviving sealed 21038 copies are not realistic UK buying targets.
Light Bluish Grey vs Dark Bluish Grey mistakes mid-build. Architecture’s neutral palette punishes a single mis-pick early; the wrong grey on a column at step 12 cascades into facade misalignment by step 50. Take your time on the colour confirmation steps, especially in evening light or under warm bulbs.
Treating Architecture as “investment”. We do not. Architecture sets retire, supply tightens, and sealed prices on the secondary market reflect that. They are display models for adults who like the buildings. Frame the purchase as “a piece of architecture you live with on a shelf”, not as anything else.
