LEGO SHIELD Helicarrier 76042 vs Captain America’s Shield 76262: Which Marvel Display Pick

The LEGO Marvel SHIELD Helicarrier 76042 is a 2,996-piece UCS-scale Avengers floor display with five Age of Ultron-era minifigures. The Captain America’s Shield 76262 is a 3,128-piece wall-mountable mosaic disc with one Captain America minifigure. Both retired Marvel display sets, both substantial piece counts, but they solve completely different display problems. We hold sealed verified copies of both at 76042 for £512.99 and 76262 for £306.99, factory-sealed and inspected in our Yorkshire warehouse before despatch.

This guide is for the UK Marvel collector with serious shelf or wall space and a budget for a flagship display piece in 2026. We cover what each set actually delivers, why piece-count is misleading on the 76262, and which one earns the room.

LEGO SHIELD Helicarrier 76042 at a glance

The 76042 is the only UCS-scale Avengers vehicle LEGO have ever produced. The build runs an internal Technic frame with the hull and runway mounted around it, finishing at 80 cm long, 45 cm wide, and 29 cm high. Box weight at 5.44 kg makes this one of the heavier UCS-line Marvel boxes to ship.

Five minifigures: Black Widow in the Age of Ultron variant (sh0186), Captain America in dark blue Age of Ultron suit (sh0184), Hawkeye in black and dark red Age of Ultron suit (sh0172), Maria Hill (sh0183), and Nick Fury in the leather trench coat (sh0185). These are the Age of Ultron-era versions, anchoring the set to that 2015 cinema release.

The deck includes a small Quinjet, two SHIELD vehicles, and the four turbines on the underside of the carrier. The hull uses a substantial sticker sheet for the runway markings and SHIELD logos, which is the most-cited honest criticism of the set: condition-grading sealed copies for resale matters because the stickers cannot be reapplied if damaged.

LEGO Captain America’s Shield 76262 at a glance

The 76262 is a circular Captain America shield mosaic, 18+ Adult line, designed to mount on a wall or sit on its included display stand. The brick mosaic is colour-built rather than stickered, which means the star, the rings and the central red disc are all assembled from solid bricks rather than decals. That is the build’s structural strength.

One minifigure: Captain America (sh0736) in dark blue suit with helmet. The figure is a standard re-release rather than an exclusive variant. Most buyers do not pick this set up for the figure.

The included hanging bracket lets you mount the shield on a wall like a piece of artwork. The alternative display option is the standalone display stand which sits on a desk or shelf. The shield diameter is around 76 cm per LEGO marketing, although built dimensions are not published in Brickset’s spec table directly.

How does the build experience compare?

These are different shapes of project entirely. The 76042 is a long Technic-frame build that runs around 12 to 18 hours across two or three sittings. The internal frame is the engineering backbone, with the deck, hull and runway built around it. The Quinjet and SHIELD vehicles are short minifigure-scale builds at the end. Reviewers consistently describe the internal frame engineering as genuinely satisfying.

The 76262 is a 6 to 10 hour build that consists of repetitive ring layering. Once the central frame and the spider-web of structural ribs are done, the rest of the build is filling in the colour mosaic with hundreds of small plates and tiles. Brickset reviewers mark this down to 3.7 of 5 specifically because of build variety: long stretches of placing 1x1 round plates in concentric rings is what most reviewers experience.

The 76042 is the more varied build. The 76262 is the more meditative, repetitive build. Different appeals.

How do they display together?

They do not. The 76042 is a horizontal vehicle that needs around 1 metre of front-facing display surface, with the deck visible from above and the four underside turbines visible if the model is mounted on a stand. Most owners display it on a coffee table, a wide shelf, or a custom stand.

The 76262 mounts on a wall or sits on its display stand. The wall-mount option opens up display options the 76042 cannot match: this is a Marvel piece you can hang in a study, a games room, or above a desk without giving up shelf space.

If shelf space is the constraint, the 76262 wins because it goes on the wall. If you have the floor or shelf space and want a centrepiece vehicle, the 76042 wins because it dominates the room.

Side-by-side comparison

Choose the 76042 if you have the floor or wide-shelf space for an 80 cm long centrepiece, you collect Avengers-era Marvel displays, or the five Age of Ultron-era minifigures (especially Nick Fury and Maria Hill) are figures you want. The build is the more varied and engineering-rich of the two.

Choose the 76262 if you want a wall-mountable Marvel display piece, you have limited shelf space, or the meditative ring-mosaic build is the kind of project you enjoy. The colour mosaic is solid bricks, which gives it durability that stickered displays lack.

If the budget allows both, they do not compete for the same space. One mounts on the wall, the other dominates a shelf or floor.

How much do these LEGO sets cost in the UK in 2026?

UK sealed prices for the 76042 sit between £480 and £620 in May 2026. BuyMyBricks lists at £512.99 sealed.

UK sealed prices for the 76262 sit between £280 and £360 in May 2026. BuyMyBricks lists at £306.99 sealed.

Why does sealed matter for these two sets?

For the 76042, the five Age of Ultron-era minifigures are the part that goes wrong in used listings. The Black Widow (sh0186), Captain America (sh0184), Hawkeye (sh0172), Maria Hill (sh0183) and Nick Fury (sh0185) variants are exclusive to this era. Standalone replacement on BrickLink for the five-figure pack runs £40 to £80. The hull stickers are the larger concern: sealed-set condition matters for resale because the runway markings cannot be reapplied if damaged. Used 76042 listings often arrive with peeled or damaged stickers and the build itself can warp slightly under its own weight if stored on its side.

For the 76262, the included Captain America (sh0736) is a standard re-release, so figure value is not the driver. What matters for sealed-only purchase is the brick mosaic itself: the 3,128 pieces include hundreds of 1x1 round plates and tiles in specific shades of red, white and blue, and replacement on BrickLink in the exact colour-shade-batch that LEGO used at the time of release is harder than it sounds. A sealed copy gives you the original colour batch and the original sticker sheet for the small Captain America-shield logo print.

This is what BuyMyBricks does. We hold sealed verified copies, inspected for original factory seals and intact tape on every flap before listing. 76042 sealed at £512.99. 76262 sealed at £306.99.

Where to buy these sealed in the UK

• BuyMyBricks. Both sets sealed and verified, despatched from our Yorkshire warehouse with tracked UK shipping in 1 to 2 working days, 30-day returns. UK-registered specialist, not a marketplace seller.
• eBay UK. Both sets appear regularly. Verify seller feedback (90 plus, 99 percent positive). For the 76042, demand multiple corner photos of the large box and confirmation the seal tape is intact. For the 76262, demand a photo of the unopened box that confirms no flap-tear damage.
• BrickLink. European sellers carry both sets. Factor 5 to 15 working days for international post and customs handling. Note that the 76042 is heavy and bulky enough that shipping costs from Europe can be significant.
• Amazon UK. Third-party listings only on both sets, typically at the high end of UK pricing.

For a UK buyer in 2026, BuyMyBricks is the obvious place to start. We are a UK-registered specialist, not a marketplace seller. Every sealed copy is inspected for original factory seal stickers, no re-taping, no edge creasing, and a set-number match against the box.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the LEGO 76042 Helicarrier?

The built model is 80 cm long, 45 cm wide, and 29 cm high. The box is 58.5 by 49 by 19 cm and weighs 5.44 kg, which makes it one of the larger LEGO boxes to ship.

Can the LEGO 76262 Captain America’s Shield be wall-mounted?

Yes. The 76262 ships with a hanging bracket and a separate display stand. You can mount it on a wall or stand it on a desk or shelf.

Why is the 76042 piece count smaller than the 76262 if it is the bigger build?

Piece count is misleading on the 76262. The 3,128 pieces are mostly small 1x1 round plates and tiles slotted into a flat radial mosaic. The 76042 builds a 3D vehicle on an internal Technic frame at 80 cm long, which uses larger structural pieces.

What minifigures come with the LEGO 76042 SHIELD Helicarrier?

Five: Black Widow (Age of Ultron variant), Captain America (Age of Ultron, dark blue), Hawkeye (Age of Ultron, black and dark red), Maria Hill, and Nick Fury (leather trench coat). Iron Man is NOT in this set, despite tag metadata sometimes implying he is.

How long does the LEGO 76042 take to build?

Around 12 to 18 hours for an adult builder, typically split across two or three sittings. The internal Technic frame is the longest section.

What does LEGO 76042 cost sealed in the UK in 2026?

UK sealed prices for the 76042 sit between £480 and £620 in May 2026. BuyMyBricks holds sealed verified stock at £512.99 with tracked UK delivery.

Should I buy LEGO 76042 or LEGO 76262?

If you have floor or wide-shelf space and want a centrepiece Avengers vehicle, take the 76042. If you have wall space and want a Marvel display piece you can mount, take the 76262. They are not direct alternatives. 76042 and 76262 sealed at BuyMyBricks.
