Selling a LEGO Collection: The Process, Step by Step

Short answer

Four steps and three of them are ours. You send a rough list. We price it and give you one figure for the whole lot, usually the same day. If you are happy, we arrange the collection at our cost, or send a courier if it is small. You are paid by one bank transfer on the day, before anything leaves. There is nothing to sign and no obligation at any point.

Key takeaways
  • The list does not need to be neat. Set numbers and rough quantities are enough.
  • One figure for the whole lot, not a set-by-set haggle.
  • We come to you for a full collection, or send a courier for a small one. Either way we pay.
  • One bank transfer on the day, before the boxes leave the house.
  • No obligation. Getting a price costs you nothing and commits you to nothing.

Selling a collection sounds like it should be complicated, and most of the worry people arrive with is about the bits that turn out not to exist. There is no inspection period, no grading on arrival, no forms, and nothing to sign. This is the whole process.

Step one: you send a list

Set numbers and roughly how many of each. That is genuinely all we need to start. The set number is the four to seven digit number on the front of the box, usually in a corner.

  • It does not need to be tidy. A photo of a handwritten list is fine.
  • A spreadsheet is welcome if you already have one, and there is a box on the form that will read it for you.
  • If some set numbers have worn off, describe those sets instead and we will work them out.
  • Do not open anything to check. On a sealed set the seal is part of what you are selling.

Tell us the worst box as well as the best. It makes the price more accurate, not lower, and it means nothing needs re-opening later.

Step two: we price it and ring you

We price every set individually against what it is actually selling for now, then give you one figure for the whole lot. Usually the same day, often within the hour on a smaller list.

If you would rather talk it through than read a number in an email, say so. Plenty of people prefer a phone call, particularly on a big collection or when they are selling on behalf of somebody else. There is no obligation attached to the conversation and we are not going to chase you afterwards.

Step three: we come to you, or a courier does

You do not need to wrap, pack or label anything for a collection. Tape on box art is worse than no tape. Just have the boxes reachable and anything you are keeping moved somewhere separate so it does not get loaded by mistake.

Collection size How it moves Who pays
A full home collection We come to you and load it ourselves We do
A small collection or a few boxes We send a courier to you We do
Spread across two addresses Tell us on the list and we plan around it We do

Step four: one bank transfer, on the day

Not a cheque, not in instalments, not after an inspection period. One transfer, on the day, before the boxes leave. Have your bank details to hand and that is the last thing that needs doing.

What does not happen

  • We do not re-price the collection on the doorstep.
  • We do not grade your boxes down on arrival and adjust the figure.
  • We do not ask you to post a collection at your own cost and risk.
  • We do not pick out the good sets and leave you the rest.
  • We do not ask you to sign anything to get a price.

What if a box is worse than I said?

Then we talk about that set, and you can keep it if you would rather. The rest of the deal does not move. That is the whole point of pricing from your list first: the figure is built on what you told us, so the only thing a surprise can change is the set it concerns.

How long does it take?

Timings depend on where you are and how big the collection is, and we will tell you the honest answer when we speak rather than a comfortable one.

Stage Typical timing
List to price Same day, often within the hour
Price to collection Arranged around you, usually within the week
Collection to payment Same day, before we leave

What we buy

Sealed, unopened sets, from one box to a thousand. We do not buy opened sets, built models, loose bricks by weight or boxes with pieces missing, because that is a genuinely different market and we would be guessing at the value. If your collection is mixed, tell us and we will be clear about which part we can price.

Start with a list, or just ring

Send set numbers and rough quantities and you get one price for the whole lot, usually the same day. Free valuation, nothing to sign, and no obligation at any point.
