Free LEGO Valuation With No Obligation: The Detail

Short answer

It should mean you can get a figure, think about it, get other figures, and walk away, without owing anybody anything and without being chased. There is nothing to sign to get a price. If any of that is not true of a buyer you are talking to, the valuation is not really free and the obligation is not really absent.

Key takeaways
  • A valuation should cost you nothing and commit you to nothing.
  • Nothing needs signing to get a price on a collection.
  • You are allowed to get other figures. A decent buyer expects it.
  • Watch for offers that expire. Urgency is a sales tool, not a valuation.
  • You can stop at any point, including on the day, before anything is loaded.

The phrase gets used by everybody, which makes it worth defining. This is what it means here and what it should mean anywhere.

What it costs you to get a price

The time it takes you to write a list is the only thing you spend, and that list is useful to you whoever you end up selling to.

  • No fee, for the valuation or for anything else.
  • Nothing to sign. Not a form, not an agreement, not a declaration.
  • No commitment to sell, at any stage, including on the day.
  • No charge if you change your mind after accepting, provided nothing has moved.
  • No cost even if we cannot buy your collection at all.

What you should be able to do afterwards

  • Take as long as you like to think about it.
  • Get figures from other buyers and compare them.
  • Ask how the number was arrived at.
  • Say no, without a reason, and not hear from us again about it.
  • Come back in six months if that is when it suits you.

Where no obligation is sometimes not quite that

What you might meet What it actually means
This offer is valid for 48 hours Pressure. A set is worth what it is worth next week too
We just need a few details signed first Then it is not obligation-free
A booking or assessment fee Not a free valuation
Repeated calls after you said no Your no was not accepted
A price only after you post it You have committed before you have a figure

Why any buyer would work this way

Because a seller who felt pushed tells people, and a seller who did not tells people too. Most of the collections we see come from somebody who was recommended or who read something and decided we sounded straight. Chasing people would cost more than it earns.

What we do with your list if you say no

Nothing. We do not sell it, share it or pass it to anybody. We do not add you to a marketing list off the back of a valuation. If you want your details removed entirely, ask and they go.

When you should feel free to walk away

  • The figure is lower than you want, for any reason.
  • You have had a better offer elsewhere.
  • You have changed your mind about selling at all.
  • Something feels off. You do not have to explain what.
  • On the day, before anything is loaded. Nothing has happened until the boxes move.

Right up to the point the boxes are loaded and the transfer is made, nothing has happened. You can stop it there with no consequence.

What a valuation needs from you

Set numbers and rough quantities, and an honest word about the worst box. That is it. It does not need to be neat and it does not need to be complete to start a conversation.

If you are selling for somebody else

Plenty of the lists we see are sent by somebody acting for a relative, an estate or a partner. That changes nothing about the valuation, but a few things are worth knowing.

  • You can get a figure without having authority to sell. A valuation commits nobody.
  • If it is an estate, the figure may be needed for probate before any decision is made. That is a normal reason to ask.
  • Take your time. There is no version of this where waiting a few weeks harms a sealed collection kept indoors.
  • If more than one person has a say, get the figure first. It is easier to discuss a real number than a guess.

What if you change your mind after saying yes?

Then you change your mind. Up to the point the boxes are loaded and the transfer is made, nothing has actually happened, and a price agreed by email is not a contract that traps you.

  • Before collection day: tell us and that is the end of it. No fee, no argument.
  • On the day, before anything is loaded: the same. It is an awkward five minutes and then we leave.
  • Once it is loaded and paid for: that is a completed sale, so speak up before that point.
  • If you want to sell part of it and keep the rest, say so. We would rather re-price than have you sell something you regret.

People worry most about this one and it is the easiest part. A buyer who makes it difficult to change your mind is telling you what they are like.

Get a figure and think about it

Send set numbers and rough quantities. One price for the whole lot, usually the same day. Nothing to sign, no fee, and no follow-up if you decide against it.
